Hideo Kojima said on his twitter that there is a reason for Metal Gear Solid 5’s character Quiet to have the wardrobe that she has in the game. The design of her uniform, if one can call it that, has caused quite the stir throughout some of the message boards. The character is going to look like this, at least in part of the game:
Kojima tried to explain that Quiet will be an antithesis of female characters and that there is a purpose, but he is not saying the objective completely and just wants people to trust his judgment.
I know there’s people concerning about “Quiet” but don’t worry. I created her character as an antithesis to the women characters (cont)

I’m not saying that he is in any way degrading women in games or anything like that, but to say there is a reason for a woman to wear next to nothing in a shoot out–a war battle? There is no reason for that sort of outfit on a female character. Who in their right mind would go into a fight with nothing but a bra and pants? If Quiet was a male character, would he be shirtless and wearing nothing but dog tags? No.
It does get kind of discouraging to yet again not be able to play a realistic female character in a game. I think that the gaming audience would enjoy a female character that is known for how she fights and has actual character development throughout a story, considering more and more women are playing games these days. Plus I know of a lot of guys that agree too, so developers can’t use the excuse of “listening to their core male audience.” Come on developers, lets get some real female characters soon!
What do you think of Kojima’s character design and his explanation?
