Pokemon X Y – Sixth Gym Leader Valerie Guide

Navi, eat your heart out.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

All of the gyms thus far have been pretty straightforward. This gym is different, however. Pokemon X Y introduces the first ever fairy type gym in the series’ history. The gym is located in Laverre City and its leader is Valerie.

Valerie is a horribly creepy looking trainer. She has sleeves on her shirt like Audino’s ears and tells you how much she wants to be like a Pokemon.

Who doesn’t want to look like this bootilicious beauty?

Valerie’s interesting tastes aside, she is a competent trainer and will mess you up if you do not come to the fight ready. That is why it is important to…

Know Your Enemy

Due to Fairy type‘s newness, the type match up will be unfamiliar for most players. That is why it is important to do your research on this fight. You have to have the right team or you can be easily trashed.

Mono fairy types have only weak to two types: poison and steel. This means that the majority of your team will have a hard time doing any serious amounts of damage to these Pokemon.

They are strong against fighting, bug, and dark types. Do not put any of these on your team unless you want to see them get KO’d quickly.

They are immune to dragon types. Dragon has almost always been a little OP in terms of type match up and fairy was introduced as a way to spice things up and counter it. In the process of doing so, they’ve also made fairy types pretty strong considering they’re also strong against fighting, dragon, and dark types.

Fairy types are not infallible and will only deal half damage to poison, steel, and fire types.

If you do not have any poison or steel types trained, at the very least use a fire type to take advantage of their defense against fairy types. This can be a serious boon in this gym

A Very Scary Fairy

The Laverre City Gym is a big house that is built into an even bigger tree. The set up is quite confusing and involves stepping on circle pads that will teleport you to different rooms in the house. The rooms from bottom-left to top-right are as follows: sewing machine room (bottom-left), entrance (bottom-middle), Furisode Girl Linnea’s room (bottom-right), Furisode Girl Blossom’s room (middle-left), Furisode Girl Kali’s room (middle-middle, bathroom (middle-right), dressing room (top-left), Valerie’s room (top-middle), and Furisode Girl Katherine’s room (top-right).

If you play your cards right and are careful, you can skip all four fights and just battle with Valerie. To go straight to Valerie’s room, follow these steps: in the entrance, go to the top right button; in the sewing room, go to the bottom right; in the bathroom, go to the bottom right; in the dressing room, go to the top right; in Blossom’s room, go to the bottom right; in Katherine’s room, go the top left. This will lead you to Valerie’s room.

Furisode Girl Kali

These girls are named after the kind of kimono they are wearing. Kali is the first of such trainer class you encounter in this gym.

Now that you have the Fairy Badge, you will be ready to take on Team Flare over at the Pokeball Factory. After you take care of this, you will eventually face gym leader Olympia.
