Magikarp Jump – How to Get Events 18 and 33

Here's how you get "Sage Advice" and "You can do it!" in Magikarp Jump.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

Some of the random events in Magikarp Jump are harder to get than others, and event numbers 18 and 33 are two especially elusive ones some trainers may miss simply by playing the game efficiently. If you’re not tossing your Magikarp at battles it has little chance of winning, you could miss these two events completely.

Oddly enough, you will run into event 33, “You can do it!”, before running into number 18’s “Sage Advice”. The conditions for “You can do it!” are easier to meet and it can be done earlier in the game, but if you meet the league requirement for “Sage Advice”, it may be best to go for them both with the same Magikarp. You’ll see why soon enough.

If you just want to knock both of these events out of the way in one day, you’ll need to have beaten the Great League. This isn’t the case if you’re just trying to knock out event 33, but it’s easiest to try to get both of these event on the same day.

How to Get Event 33, “You can do it!”

There is no minimum league requirement for event 33. The only requirement to view this event and have it added to your Event Dex is to lose three times in a row to the same opponent.

As a reminder, it takes an hour and a half to be able to compete again after a loss. This makes “You can do it!” take four and a half hours to receive. That’s four and a half hours of not really playing the game, mind you — and you need to be absolutely sure you don’t get enough JP to beat the opponent you’re using to get the event.

I just threw a totally fresh Magikarp at the first
Heavy League battle to get this one.

The easiest way to go about this is to simply not have your Magikarp eat or train during the duration of a battle, just to be safe. At the end of it all, you’re granted 3 LP Restores.

Having to not actively play for four and a half hours just to get an event sounds kind of crazy, but getting event 18 is even more of a time sink.

How to Get Event 18, “Sage Advice”

Have you beaten the Great League? If not, you’re not going to be able to get this event yet.

In order to get “Sage Advice”, you need to have beaten the Great League and then lose. A lot.

I’m not sure if you have to lose several matches in a row, but that is how I got event 18. After 6 or 7 losses in a row on a single Magikarp, I was bestowed the sort of depressing reward of “Sage Advice”.

With 6 or so losses needed, it’s easy to see why it’s probably best to shoot for both event 18 and event 33 at the same time. It will save you time in the long run, even if it means you won’t really be able to play for about 9 hours. And that’s if you’re timing when you can get back into league battles and hopping in immediately.

The plus side to being stuck losing once every hour and a half for an entire day? You’ll get to add the hard to get “Sage Advice” event to your Event Dex, and the unfortunate Magikarp put to task in your losing adventure will get a big JP boost at the end of it all.

If you’re not the type to keep throwing your Magikarp at a potential loss, you may miss out on these two events entirely. Well, if you weren’t told about them anyway. If you’re trying to fill your Event Dex to 100%, you need to go through the pain that is losing to get both event 18 and 33. At least you know how to get them when you’re ready to.
