Earthbound (or Mother 2 as it is known in Japan), a classic top-down RPG, follows the story of 4 children. You start the game as Ness, a young boy with a love for baseball that has just realized he has psychic powers. As you progress through the game you will add 3 more characters to your roster; Paula, another psychic with a bit more experience, Jeff, a self proclaimed genius, and lastly, Poo, a martial arts master from a far away land. With these characters you journey to collect 8 melodies and defeat the evil Giygas, and ancient alien being hellbent on leaving the Earth in complete darkness.

Originally the game did not receive a very strong sales record in the US, making this the only one released outside of Japan (there are 3 total.) With a strong cult following, Earthbound was able to keep popularity amongst avid gamers and has made it onto quite a few top 5 creepiest games of all time lists. I would assume it has something to do with Giygas being a human fetus. Yes, the enemy in the game is and aborted fetus!

If you don’t believe me and have never played the game, now is the chance to find out for yourself. If you are a fan of the game, would you like to finally see the Japanese sequels translated and released on the eShop? Let us know in the comments section below.
