A game that was first teased as an April Fool’s Day joke is actually being released!
Bandai Namco has started streaming a trailer for its newest smartphone game, Galaga: TEKKEN Edition. The game was first teased as a joke on April 1st, but it seems like the company was actually being serious.
It’s been about 20 years since the first Tekken game was released, so it only seems right to create a game specifically to commemorate the anniversary. A crossover between the two games, Galaga: Tekken Edition was released today with some new tweaks and changes. The spaceships and aliens of the original Galaga game were replaced with pixel Tekken characters such as Heihachi Mishima, Lili, and Claudio Serafino. Other characters must be unlocked along the way, some of which will be characters from the most recent game, Tekken 7.
Each character has their own unique shooting style (Heihachi headbutts, Lili has rapid fire, Claudio shoots, etc.), but players can also combine powers of different characters to perform tag team attacks. The enemies of the game are also different from the original Galaga games. Instead of aliens, Heihachi, Lili, Claudio, and co. fight against King and his army of wrestlers, Bob, Ganryu, Jack, Xiaoyu, Panda, and Alisa. The game ends with a final battle against the Mishima family, typical of a Tekken game.
The game was released today, for free, on both the Apple App Store and on the Google Play store.
