Though it’s also arriving on PlayStation 4, there’s no doubt that Sackboy: A Big Adventure has been one of the PlayStation 5’s most anticipated launch titles. However, for those looking to play online co-op with friends when the game launches on November 12, they’ll need to wait that little bit longer.
The news has been confirmed by developers Sumo Digital. The studio revealed the online multiplayer functionality will be added as a free update before the end of December. Currently, though, there is not a firm release date for the patch.
As part of this, it also means save transfers between PS4 and PS5 editions won’t be available at launch.
Speaking via a PlayStation Blog post, Design Director Ned Waterhouse said that some extra time was needed to perfect the functionality.
The team have been working hard to ensure that online is the very best experience it can be for players, and we just need a little more time to get it right so you can enjoy it to the fullest with your friends and family.
Local co-op modes for Sackboy: A Big Adventure remain unaffected, letting players party up with three additional players in the meantime. But if you were hoping to hop into an online party with friends, it’s an unfortunate launch-window delay. Stay tuned to GameSkinny as we find out more, and keep an eye out for our full review of Sackboy: A Big Adventure later this month.
