We’ve known for a while that Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 is in the works, but there’s even more Witcher goodness on the way. Today, Netflix announced The Witcher prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin is also set for production, exploring Geralt’s world 1,200 years before Geralt set foot on the scene.

According to Netflix’s press release, which Nerdist picked up, The Witcher: Blood Origin‘s executive producers are Lauren Hissrich (showrunner for The Witcher Season 1) and Declan De Barra (The Witcher, The Originals) will be both co-executive producer and showrunner.

Blood Origin will explore the world of The Witcher before humans arrived, bringing catastrophe with them. It’s also set to focus on the “forgotten” story of the first-ever Witcher. If you’re concerned about Netflix creating Witcher lore independent of the book series, worry not. Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski will act as a consultant for the series.

De Barra said he specifically wants to explore the pre-human world before the conjunction of the spheres:

What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans? I’ve always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations… Leaving only fragments of a civilization’s true story behind.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher.

As yet, there’s no anticipated air date for The Witcher: Blood Origin. But between Blood Origin, Season 2, and the Netflix Witcher animated series, there’s at least plenty to look forward to. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more The Witcher news as it develops.
