Ouya has Materialized

Ouya is real!
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Ouya detractors (of which there were many): lick your wounds, because the Kickstarter darling has come to fruition and is set to ship prototype consoles to their devs, who donated $800 to their cause during the Kickstarter campaign.

In a blog post from November 30, spokesperson Jules Kane filled us in, and gave us a peek at the new indie console:

“The dev consoles are an early version of the OUYA console and controller designed for developers to test their games on OUYA. Our Kickstarter developers are the first to get a crack at ‘em! We’re psyched to have you on board, and we can’t wait to see what pours from your brain!

Of course, when the final consoles ship, EVERY OUYA will be a dev console. We told you that already. What we didn’t tell you was that the advance dev consoles you ordered are pretty special – you’ll know what I mean when you open yours. They’re rare drops. :P”

In its 45 day campaign, the open source Android, indie console Ouya drowned its $950,000 goal, raising a total of over 8.5 million bucks. The system already has overwhelming interest from developers with thousands hoping to create content.

For those kicking themselves for not getting in on the action when they had the chance (or just didn’t want to drop the $800), the folks at Ouya are having a dev console giveaway, with one dev kit up for grabs each day for ten days. The contest runs from December 10th until the 20th. Peep the deets here. Good luck!
