Pokemon Legends Arceus: How to Mass Release Pokemon

Mass releasing Pokemon in Pokemon Legends frees space and gives you rare rewards. Here's how to do it.

Pastures can only hold so much, and there will come a time when you need to mass release in Pokemon Legends Arceus. That time is actually a little ways into the game, unless you’re hoarding Pokemon.

Difficult as it may be to part with your captured critters, there’s a good reason to release them once they’re strong enough.

How to Unlock Mass Release in Pokemon Legends Arceus

All captured Pokemon not in your party live in pastures. You can select multiple Pokemon and move them around the different pastures – Pokemon Legends’ version of the usual boxes – but you can only release them one at a time.

After you’ve filled the fourth pasture, speak with Marie, the woman who tends them, and she’ll give you the chance to release multiple Pokemon at once.

How to Mass Release Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Here’s how to set multiple Pokemon free at once:

  • Choose the pasture you want to empty
  • Press “Y” to switch the selection mode to multi
  • Outline which Pokemon you want to select
  • Press “X” and choose to release them

Should You Release Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus?

Yes, absolutely. Research tasks make you catch dozens of the same Pokemon species, and aside from the evolution tasks, there’s just no reason to keep that many. Legends has no breeding system, so these extra Pokemon are essentially just taking up space.

When you release them, you should receive a Grit item. These raise Effort Levels, which, in turn, buff the stat they’re attached to. It seems the item you get and the chances of obtaining it are based on the Pokemon’s level, or there might be an element of randomness involved.

Some releases just fly off into the sunset without actually giving me anything in return. Still, it’s one of just a few ways to obtain Grit items, so it’s worth trying anyway.
