Pokemon X Y – Seventh Gym Leader Olympia Guide

Do you have what it takes to take on a woman whose cape is made out of space?
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

After beating Valerie and doing some other stuff, you are two badges away from having all eight. The next gym leader you need to take out in Pokemon X Y is Olympia, the psychic type leader of Anistar.

As you can see from the image above, Olympia has an out of this world design. Her gym has a very similar theme and you will be looking at some pretty imagery as you make your way over to her.

Know Your Enemy

Psychic types are Olympia’s speciality. These spoon-bending sons of guns do not have many strengths, nor do they have many weaknesses. You might not have to build a team made of types that counter Olympia and her underlings, but you want to make sure you’re at least not sending out someone to die or forgetting to go in with the right move set.

Psychic types are weak to three types: bug, ghost, and dark. If you have a Pinsir or Heracross, a Gengar or Pumpkaboo, or even just a Pokemon with crunch, you should be good to go in this regard.

They are strong against fighting and poison. If you have any of these types on your team, they will most likely die from a psybeam or two.

Dark types are immune to psychic type moves. It would be very helpful for you to have a mono dark type on your team.

They are resistant to fighting and psychic. They only deal half damage to psychic and steel.

I am going to not only give you a way to beat her Pokemon and the Pokemon of the other trainers in her gym, but I will also give you a walkthrough of this confusing labyrinth because I’m a nice dude.

I used the term labyrinth, but it’s really not that tricky. Olympia’s gym looks like it’s complex, but in reality, it’s mostly dead ends on one side and sometimes a fork that lets you skip a trainer battle.

When you first go in, step in the center area to initiate the switch from normal looking gym to cosmic mind freak.

You will have two paths: one leads down and one leads up. The path that goes down leads to a dead-end; go up.

Psychic Paschal

Exeggutor (lvl. 46)

  • Wood Hammer
  • Weaknesses: flying, poison, ghost, fire, ice, dark, and especially bug

When you go up, you will have to challenge a trainer.

After defeating Paschal, go into the yellow square.

Follow that path and go to the other square as everything else will lead to a dead-end. This happens two more times.

There will be eventually a longer path that forks. There is a trainer that you can skip depending on which part of the fork you take; it will be obvious when you see it.

Psychic Harry

Medicham (lvl. 46)

  • Psych Up
  • Accupressure
  • High Jump Kick
  • Weaknesses: flying, fairy, and ghost

After this, you will go down. There are two paths: take the right as it leads to a yellow square and the left leads to a dead-end. If you go straight up, you will find the next yellow square.

There will be a forked path; if you hang right, you can skip the following trainer:

Psychic Arthur

Reuniclus (lvl. 46)

  • Psychic
  • Weaknesses: bug, ghost, and dark

You will go to the next yellow square. From there, the path up leads to another trainer. If you skip it and go left, you can avoid the fight. If not, you will fight her.

Hex Maniac Arachna

Jynx (lvl. 46)

  • Wake-Up Slap
  • Weaknesses: rock, bug, ghost, steel, fire, and dark

After skipping or defeating Arachna, you are nearing the end of the puzzle. There is a left path you will come across. If you go up, you can avoid this trainer.

Hex Maniac Melanie

Gardevoir (lvl. 46)

  • Trace (ability)
  • Imprison
  • Calm Mind
  • Weaknesses: poison, ghost, and steel
  • Immunities: dragon

If you take the next square, you will find Olympia.

Olympia

Sigilyph (lvl. 44)

  • Light Screen
  • Reflect
  • Psychic
  • Weaknesses: rock, ghost, electric, ice, and dark
  • Immunities: ground
  • Hyper potion

Slowking (lvl. 45)

  • Power Gem
  • Yawn
  • Calm Mind
  • Weaknesses: electric, grass, bug, ghost, and dark
  • Hyper potion

Meowstic (lvl. 48)

  • Calm Mind
  • Psychic
  • Weaknesses: bug, ghost, and dark

After defeating Olympia’s crazy mind-bending Pokemon strategy, you will earn the Psychic Badge and TM04 Calm Mind. Calm Mind is awesome and you should use it on Pokemon that benefit from special attack and special defense.

You are almost done with the main part of the game! After Olympia, you will have to face Team Flare in a big fight. Prepare yourself for a long journey from badge seven to badge eight. It does lead to some interesting points in the story, however, so buckle up for an interesting ride.
