Twenty years after the launch of Baldur’s Gate 2, fans will finally get to see gameplay footage of the long-awaited sequel later this month at PAX East in Boston. Larian Studios, the developers behind the Baldur’s Gate franchise, has confirmed it will reveal Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay on Thursday, February 27 at 3:30 p.m. EST.
If you can’t make it to PAX, don’t fret. The live stream will also take place on the Larian Studios’ YouTube channel.
Previously, Larian shared announcement teasers featuring extensive cutscene footage. Unfortunately, those didn’t share a single scrap of actual gameplay.
We still don’t know much about the RPG’s mechanics, or how closely it will adhere to the classic Infinity Engine real-time-with-pause formula of the previous game. However, we do know the third entry in the series will reportedly use a modified version of the D&D 5th edition rule set, and we know mind flayers will play some role in the story.
Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t currently have a firm release date, though it’s confirmed for the PC and the Google Stadia streaming platform.
Larian Studios previously released the turn-based RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2 back in 2017, which saw a console port the next year.
