There are two endings in TUNIC, one of which involves a boss fight, and the other one requires players to solve a complex puzzle that carries on throughout the whole game. This second ending is considered a true ending, as it provides a more positive resolution to the entire story.
Our guide will provide you with tips on how to solve the Golden Path puzzle, open the Mountain Door, and unlock both endings in TUNIC. There is also a complete solution to the puzzle at the end of the guide in case you missed some of the most obscure clues.
TUNIC Ending 1: Take Your Rightful Place
Once you reach the end of the game, you will have to choose one of the two endings at Page 46 of the booklet.
The first is “Take Your Rightful Place”, and it is quite straightforward, where you simply need to defeat The Heir boss.
Here are the most important tips that will help you survive this battle:
- Vertical and horizontal lunge attacks. In this case you need to adopt teleport dashing to be able to swiftly dodge her lunge sword attacks. Parrying and dodging are usually better than shield blocking in this case.
- Shockwave attacks. Once she plunges her sword into the ground, expect a shockwave to spread around the arena. You can either jump over it, or use shield blocking with the Barricade charm.
- Poison cloud attacks. In the second phase, after diminishing her HP pool, The Heir will get even more aggressive, and start spreading a cloud of poisonous gas. You can protect yourself from it with the help of Hourglass charm.
You may also encounter shards falling from the sky and energy beams, which can be easily dodged by moving to the edge of the arena.
In general, try to keep as much distance between yourself and The Heir, and use ranged attacks whenever you can. Soon you should be able to defeat this final boss.
TUNIC Ending 2: Share Your Wisdom
In order to unlock the second alternate ending, which is considered the true ending, you will have to solve the Golden Path puzzle and open the Mountain Door.
First, you need to choose the second ending in your booklet at Page 47, where you will be sent to the Mountain Door, which is locked for now. You can find the solution to unlocking it on Page 49. There are also additional hints found earlier on Pages 43-44 as well.
The Golden Path puzzle consists of several maps that are scattered all across the booklet. You can find the Golden Path symbols and hints on the following pages:
- Page 12
- Page 27
- Page 42
Once you’ve been able to put all the maps together into a single pathway, you can use it to open the Mountain Door. If you can’t find the solution to the Golden Path puzzle on your own, then simply enter the following path code in the exact sequence listed below:
up, left, down, left, up, left, down, left, up, right, up, right, up, left, up, right, down right, up, left, up, left, up, right, up, left, down, left, up, right, up, up, left, up, right, down, right, down, right, up, right, down, left, down, right, up, right, right, down, right, up, right, down, right, up, right, right, down, left, down, left, down, right, down, right, down, left, left, down, right, down, left, down, right, up, right, down, right, up, right, right, down, down, left, up, right, up, left, down, left, up, left, up, left, up, right, right, up, left, up
Note that you must stand in front of the Mountain Door, but not too close. Also you must input the path code rather quickly. If you make long pauses, the code won’t work, and the door won’t open.
Once the Mountain Door is unlocked, go upstairs and read the letter from the developer. After that you will see a touching cutscene, and there is no boss fight at the end, wrapping up the story in the most satisfying way.
That’s all you need to know on how to unlock Mountain Door & Golden Path endings in TUNIC. Also, be sure to read our official TUNIC review right here!
