The Game Awards 2019 Announcements and Reveals

The Game Awards 2019 had the usual new announcements and teasers, and we've rounded it all up here for your viewing convenience.

The Game Awards are about two things: giving out awards to the best games and the incredible people who make them happen and showing off trailers for new games or updates. Oh, and advertisements — it’s about those, too.

But in between the large volume of ads during The Game Awards 2019, we did get to see a lot of announcements for upcoming games and some pretty compelling updates for already announced ones. There was also Microsoft’s big reveal of the Xbox Scarlett, now officially called Xbox One Series X.

Here’s a rundown of the biggest reveals  from The Game Awards 2019. If you’re looking for all The Game Awards 2019 winners, mosey yourself over here.

New Final Fantasy VII Remake Trailer

No, this isn’t technically a new announcement, but it’s been long enough since we got new FFVII Rremake footage it’s worth talking about.

The “Who is Cloud Strife?” trailer was the first thing shown off during The Game Awards and gives a tantalizing glimpse at the game’s narrative segments. More importantly, it confirms Barrett’s environment speech to Cloud is still in tact.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

The Xbox One Series X already received its first official game announcement as well with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.

It’s an atmospheric followup to Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice that looks pretty darn amazing, if we’re being honest.

Godfall

Not to be outdone, Sony and Gearbox announced a brand-new title for the PlayStation 5: Godfall.

Since this is Gearbox, it’s no surprise Godfall is described as a looter-slasher title, though we didn’t get to see much of it. It’s intended as a launch title as well, set for a Holiday 2020 release date, just like the PlayStation 5 itself.

Bravely Default II

All those teases from Square Enix and Team Asano over the past few years culminated in last night’s reveal of Bravely Default II.

Billed as a sequel in the Bravely universe — not a direct follow-up to Tiz’s story, hence the name — Bravely Default II features music from the original game’s Revo and looks to sport the same gorgeous art style as its predecessors. Expect it sometime in 2020 on Nintendo Switch.

Prologue: A Playerunkown Story

It’s been a while since Brendan Greene, creator of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) said he was ready to move on to a new project. Now, though, we’re getting a first glimpse at what this project is — sort of.

It’s called Prologue, and it apparently takes place at least partly in the woods.

Weird West

The makers of Dishonored and Prey are working on a new title called Weird West.

It’s an Action RPG featuring a Western theme combined with all manner of supernatural nasties, explosions, gunfights, wrapped up in a narrative determine by your choices for each protagonist.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story

The developers behind Battlechasers and Darksiders are working on a turn-based RPG set in the League of Legends universe.

The game is centered around the Ruined King, obviously, and lets players explore well-known LoL locations like Bilgewater. There’s some new innovation on turn-based combat as well, but we’ll have to wait and see what that’s all about.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance

Dark Alliance brings the tabletop action of Dungeons & Dragons to life in a 4-player co-op RPG experience. Players will team up to fight monsters from throughout the D&D universe, though that’s about all we know right now.

That’s it for The Game Awards 2019’s big new reveals. We’ll likely be learning a lot more about these titles and many others as we move into the new year, so stay tuned to GameSkinny for more new game news.
