Dragon Age Romances to Prepare for The Veilguard

Dragon Age: The Veilguard throws gamers into the world of Tevinter. Here are some romances that can prepare you for that journey and give insight into the mysterious magisters.

The new installment of the Dragon Age series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is set for a Fall 2024 release. The release announcement has many fans looking for dialogue and romance options that may prepare them for the new installment. Though every romance in the Dragon Age universe has its merits, there are a few that can ready you for the headlong dive into Tevinter. Here are four Dragon Age romances and how they can prepare you for the new game.

Anders

Anders is considered by many to be one of the worst companions Dragon Age has to offer. However, if you’re preparing for The Veilguard, you may be surprised by how much his romance can help. Anders is a mage and, not surprisingly, is for reform where mages are considered, seeing the damage the chantry and templars have done.

He also sees the corruption within the mage circle and how it is run by the chantry. By playing as a pro-mage Hawke and romancing Anders, you can uncover dialogue and a storyline that gives you key insight into the underbelly of the mage rebellion. Knowing that information will set you up for a different outlook on the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition and prepare you for the possibility of mage conflicts and further elven mage lore in The Veilguard.

Fenris

Fenris may seem like an odd romance to put on a list about The Veilguard. He is anti-mage and even anti-Dalish. He is a former slave of Tevinter Magister, and it’s his status as a Tevinter slave that puts him on this list. During the romance dialogue with Fenris, you begin to unlock the things he has seen and been through while working for a magister. He knows the darker side of Tevinter and what the mages are capable of when given control. He opposes mages and everything Anders and the mage rebellion stand for.

This insight can give a solid look at the darker tactics you may face in The Veilguard. Fenris is also on the list because of the popular theory that he will return in The Veilguard. Having a romantic background with him may be helpful if that’s the case.

Dorian

Dorian Pavus is the opposite of Fenris. He will give you a romance that shows you both the good and bad that Tevinter holds. Through romance and general dialogue, you begin seeing Dorian as the exception and not the rule. He is not a magister; he is an Altus, which is just below a magister. He studies magic and wants to make Tevinter a better place by ridding it of blood magic and some of the bigotry within the Tevinter Imperium.

Dorian also faces issues as a gay male in a society that prides itself on arranged marriages and offspring that fit the mold of the perfect next generation of mages. He also gives insight into the politics and government of Tevinter, which you won’t get from other sources.

Solas

Through recent gameplay and trailer releases, we know that Solas will appear in The Veilguard. We also know that his plans at the end of Dragon Age: Inquisition are somehow going into action in The Veilguard. Playing as a Dalish mage in Dragon Age: Inquisition gives you a large part of the lore you will need to understand the role of the elven mage in the Dragon Age universe.

Combining that lore knowledge and gameplay value with a Solas romance will give you insight into how the villain of The Veilguard works. It may not help with dialogue, but it could affect your gameplay to make a more interesting experience.

If you have not tried these romances, consider them before the drop of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. They each offer an insight into the world of mages, the oppression wielded by the chantry and templar factions, and set you up for what may come as Solas begins his attack on the veil.
