Co-op games have been making a comeback as of late, especially on the console side, where naturally, it is easier for people to sit on a couch together and grab or share a controller.
The PC, while not being directly known for it, still has its fair share of co-op games available.
Here are the five best co-op games on Steam:
1. Portal 2
Portal 2 is the ultimate co-op game, letting players run through the campaign side-by-side and solve puzzles together. You're using the famous gameplay mechanics introduced in the first game of the series, but with a different twist than the single-player campaigns of both the first Portal as well as Portal 2.
This first-person puzzle game is everything that co-op is supposed to be, forcing cooperative play and thinking through its co-op campaign mode.
2. Magicka
Magicka harkens back to the old PlayStation 2 days of overhead-view, four-player action-RPGs. But it mixed in some of today's indie charms to create a fun new experience for 1-4 players.
All players take control of a wizard in the sarcastic, Norse-based Magicka universe to save the world using a dynamic spell system that essentially lets players build their own spells to use on the various enemies that they might run across in the game.
3. Gauntlet
Gauntlet is a remake of one of the old RPGs that gave Magicka inspiration, and that inspiration came for good reason.
Players can team up by choosing between four different heroes and take on dungeons full of monsters.
Gauntlet brings back all of its old main heroes, but makes them more unique and specialized for players as they slice and dice their way to more loot and some new abilities.
This game is really fun when played in full groups of four, and mixing up the different classes can make for some new experiences each time.
4. Castle Crashers
Castle Crashers takes the four-player top-down view RPG and turns it sideways, literally.
This game is a side-scrolling hack-and-slash game that makes invading castles look fun, and the hand-drawn characters make it look cute.
5. Orcs Must Die 2
Orcs Must Die 2 is yet another dungeon crawler with yet another twist to it.
This one is for one or two players, and if you're playing co-op, it's going to be in a male-female duo. You'll be either playing as the male War Mage or the female Sorceress as you cast your way through the campaign or the newly introduced endless mode, which pits you and your partner against wave after wave of enemies until you can't handle it any longer.
Both modes are great with a partner, and switching between roles makes for interesting twists in the gameplay based on different playstyles.
With co-op games coming back into style, there have been in influx of them, but these are the top five ones we think are available on Steam right now.
Do you think we missed one or two, or five? Let us know in the comments!
