Being Great at Video Games

Being great doesn't have to mean being amazingly skilled at video games.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

I am, by far, not the best gamer. I kind of suck at most games, I get frustrated way too easily, and I die constantly. (As such, I'm very familiar with the Spirit Healers in World of Warcraft.) However, there are ways that you can be a great gamer without having to have skill.

The first thing I feel we need to have a talk about is etiquette  I am a female gamer. While I haven't experienced the kind of harassment that some of my friends have, I have seen it. So don't stereotype girls when gaming. Treat female gamers just like you would any other gamer. That's really all you need to do.

Another aspect of etiquette is not being a jerk to noobs. Please try to remember that you were, at some point in your gaming experience, a noob. When you started playing World of Warcraft or Halo, you didn't necessarily know all the mechanics and best strategies. You learned as you went, or if you were lucky, an experienced player gave you some tips. All I ask is that you try to have some patience when it comes to inexperienced gamers.

Don't be this guy. Just don't. I feel nothing more needs to be said about this. Moving on.

Don't be afraid to laugh at yourself. If you screw up in a game or have no idea what you're doing, take a page from MonotoneTim's book and have some fun with it! Don't forget why you're gaming in the first place: to have fun. And if you ever need a laugh, check out MonotoneTim playing My Boyfriend 2. Now that's some amazing gaming.
