David Hayter, the traditional voice for Snakes many iterations, will not be making an appearance in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
The voice actor’s name is synonymous with the series, making this the first main Metal Gear Solid game that does not have that trademark voice. This could be just because The Phantom Pain features Big Boss instead of Snake, but it is disappointing nonetheless.
Hayter tweeted the question “How would you react if I didn’t play Snake in the next Metal Gear?” earlier this month, with 24% of responses saying they would not buy the game if Hayter did not play Snake.
After the official reveal that The Phantom Pain was in fact Metal Gear Solid 5, he tweeted the following:
Well look, At least I had a good run.

This is sad for those of us that idolized David Hayter for his iconic voice work in the Metal Gear Solid series. Though he is known for many voices, his most beloved is by far that of Snake.
