Despite the Twitch Ban a Year Ago, Yandere Simulator Lives On

Not even a streaming service can stop this game!

Yandere Simulator is an interesting game in which you play as a lovesick schoolgirl, hell-bent on destroying the lives of anyone who attempts to take away her ‘crush’ through blackmail, social sabotage or even murder. How fun.

The game was banned on Twitch, due to this little clause in the Terms of Use which forbids…

“Content that exclusively focuses on extreme or gratuitous gore and violence is prohibited.”

And while that might be true of Yandere Simulator, it’s also true of games like Mortal Kombat. But those haven’t yet (and won’t ever) be banned from the streaming platform.

Another reason for the ban was the excessive amount of nudity. While this seems a bit silly — given that games such as Grand Theft Auto and Watch Dogs 2 also feature excessive nudity — it’s at least a bit more of a red flag in Yandere‘s case, since the game features underage school girls.

Despite this, the game is still a huge success among fans. The official YouTube channel (Yandere Dev) currently has 1,311,187 subscribers, and its regular video uploads receive over 1 million views in just a few days. The Patreon page pulls just under $5,000 each month, and the game itself has been downloaded over 5 million times (as of last year).

It looks like the Twitch ban only served to help Yandere Dev further, Deeming it too taboo for the world’s largest streaming platform caught a lot of gamers’ attention, and that skyrocketed the game to popularity that it probably wouldn’t have had otherwise.

What could have been a death sentence for a less…eccentric…game has instead become a new breath of life for Yandere Simulator. The only question now is how long it’s going to last.

What are your thoughts on Twitch banning Yandere Simulator? Have you played the game for yourself? Let me know in the comments!
