My name is Jay and behind my goofy profile picture is an extremely qualified candidate for the Dragon’s Prophet correspondent position here at GameSkinny. I’ve included a number of writing samples within links throughout this post.
Credentials
I have been writing and editing at GameSkinny as a part of the internship program for the past month and have managed to greatly develop my writing abilities all the while juggling graduation, moving states, and job hunting. Plus, I’m a pretty cool guy and easy to work with. I’m sure Katy Hollingsworth and my Team Alpha cohorts will speak positively on my behalf.
In addition to GameSkinny, I have also written at GAMEBREAKER.TV for the past several months. When I’m not writing about games, I write on my personal blog about film and media culture (ranging from the Saw franchise to Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo).
I’ve written for print newspapers as part of GateHouse Media’s Wicked Local and the University of Rochester’s Campus Times. Additionally, I’ve spent time as an editorial intern at the prestigious AfterImage print journal.
My full resume is uploaded as a Google Doc here.
Abilities and Style
I write everything from news to reviews to opinion articles. Everything I write is crisp, clean, well-edited, and meticulously fact-checked. My experience as a games journalist and as an academic writer has given me the ability to write fast and with great analytical precision. I write with a heartbeat and a backbone and my articles are readable.
This year I attended PAX East as part of GAMEBREAKER.TV and provided interviews and hands-on coverage for both WildStar and Elder Scrolls Online. PAX gave me valuable convention knowledge, which will be essential for effectively navigating SOE Live.
I’ve played a number of MMOs from WoW and GW2 to Planet Side 2 and The Old Republic and have been keeping a finger on the pulse of many upcoming MMOs including WildStar, ESO, and Destiny. I would love the opportunity to cover Dragon’s Prophet. It looks like a pretty rad game, and, well, dragons are cool.
The More the Merrier
An added bonus: myself and Reilly C, another GameSkinny intern, will team up and play Dragon’s Prophet together. Ideally, we will work and play together as the 2 correspondents. This will allow us to communicate, pool our knowledge, and be sure to write diverse articles that don’t overlap – thus providing better coverage. If this is not possible, we would still like to be considered as individual candidates (and I wish him the best)!
Thank you for your time,
Jay Ricciardi
