Interview with Scarlett at Red Bull Battle Grounds Grand Finals

Scarlett took some time to give us an interview after Red Bull Battle Grounds in Washington, DC. Check out how she felt about her performance at the event, and what she has planned next.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Canadian player Scarlett took Red Bull Battle Grounds by surprise, by demonstrating strong performance being the only native North American player in the top 8. She won over the crowd with unique and entertaining strategies. It was easy to see why she was a crowd favorite, with her non-traditional matches. In some cases risking it all, rushing a proxy hatchery in PartinG’s base, forcing a quick victory. An interesting strategy considering she has never won a match against PartinG in the past. However, her plays got Scarlett a victory over PartinG 2-0. Though Cure went to play in the finals against Bomber, even he was shaken up and relieved to have won 2-1 against Scarlett. Scarlett was a force throughout the event, but it was Polt who knocked her out of the tournament earning her 5th/6th place overall.

Here’s what Scarlett had to say after the event:

What’s been your favorite part of Battle Grounds DC?

Red Bull takes really good care of the players. It’s probably the best event for that. We get to see the city a little bit. We got to see the Washington Monument, that area and they give us food and everything and we get a very nice practice area back here. I really like how they take care of the players and the crowd has been great here. they’ve been cheering so loud, the crowd is completely full, they’ve been cheering the whole time.

What is it like to be a big crowd favorite?

It’s very exciting, but it adds a little bit of pressure because, I’m the only non-Korean player, I’m the only North American here. So I feel a little more pressure to win, like if I lose a lot of people will be dissapointed in me.

How does this years Battle Grounds compare to last year’s for you?

Well obviously I did a little better last year, but overall the events, they were both very very good. I don’t know if I could say one was better than the other, the crowd were great both years, the production was great, they took care of the players amazingly. So both years were very great. I don’t know if I could pick one to be better.

What’s next for you?

I don’t have too much planned this fall, this winter. I have WCS round of 8 in a few weeks in Los Angeles, but other than that I have nothing planned for awhile, just relaxing in Canada at home for awhile.
