With all of the games available on Kickstarter, it can be easy to let a few really fascinating ones slip through the cracks. Case in point is Tales from the Strange Universe, a MMO browser strategy game from Really Big Spiders.

The creators behind TFTSU started designing the project in an attempt to create an online, multiplayer strategy game. When they couldn’t find one that suited their tastes and desires, they put together their collective skill to create TFTSU. Influenced by classics like Master of Orion and CivilizationTFTSU promises to be a unique strategy experience.

Why Back It?

Other than the desire to support an indie developer, there are a few good reasons to support Tales From the Strange Universe

1.TFTSU promises “countless paths to victory.” Strategy games lose their interest when one party clearly has the advantage over another, therefore Really Big Spiders put a lot of thought into balancing play and setting up multiple routes for down and out players to once again rise from the ashes.

2. Galaxies run for 3 to 6 weeks, and then restart. This has a couple of advantages over longer term MMO’s. For one, if you choose a failing strategy, you can bounce back once the galaxies reset. Long term players will have fresh galaxies with which to experiment with, while newer players won’t feel like they are at an extreme disadvantage when entering.

3. Really Big Spiders is only looking for $8k total. With a game that is already 90% complete, you’re backing a sure-fire, completed project. TFTSU is currently in closed beta (something you can get in on if you support the $20 tier option) and is slated for a June 2014 release — meaning a quick turn on your investment.

4. Browser based, so no more heavy downloads to bog down your computer.

5. A fantasy + retro science fiction style that you are unlikely to find anywhere else. “Where else do you see Elves and Dragons, fighting Robots, Martians and Demons?”
