Yesterday, to the delight of almost 63,000 people, Morgan Freeman (may have) logged on to Reddit’s IAMA subreddit–where celebrities and those with amazingly extraordinary stories post a thread for thousands upon thousands of people to ask them a wide variety of questions.
Anyone who is a member of Reddit understands the infallible bullshit radar that redditors have. It’s no secret that if you’re faking it to make it, you’re going to get sniffed out. This may be the case with Freeman’s AMA, which did not go over nearly as well as the Oblivion’s PR company had hoped.
Oblivion is Freeman’s most recent film, a sci-fi movie coming out in July of this year. Redditors are finding out that they may have, for the first time, been duped.
Freeman’s answers were short and uninspiring, to say the least, leading many to believe that either Freeman didn’t give any sort of shit about the event, or that the PR company was faking his presence and giving their own answers. As one of the most cherished actors on Reddit, this is a major stain on the shiny image that Freeman has built for himself through his acting career–at least to his aspiring fans on Reddit.
Many believe that the evidence provided (any celebrity who does an AMA must provide proof that they are who they say they are) was actually photoshopped, and one man shows how to tell.
The subreddit’s mods have received word back from the PR team, “stating in no uncertain terms that all of the answers in the AMA were his words, and that the picture was legitimate and no doctored.”
