Today’s LOL is brought to you by Josué Pereira the artist and writer of Nerf Now. In the middle of the summer, BioWare announced that its MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic would switch over to a free-to-play. Last month, the team dropped the first F2P patch on the test server. This prompted Jo to illustrate the comic above.
Now, I’m a SWTOR fan. Despite some of the negative reactions from a great number of fans and the subscription drop off in March, I am still having fun in the game and will continue to do so for quite some time. However, I have to admit that a lot of the restrictions on F2P players in SWTOR don’t actually encourage players to buy a subscription. Most of the restrictions I see reflect what Jo is saying in the comic:
It makes the ride very uncomfortable.
It forces people to subscribe not because it’s fun but because it’s not fun to play without it. Hopefully, the free-to-play team realizes this flaw and changes a lot of the extraneous limitations like toolbars, titles, and bank slots.
SWTOR free-to-play launches today! I’m there trying things out, but if you have any LOLs to share, drop me a line on Twitter or write a comment below.
OK, it’s the middle of the day, you need a laugh to get you over the hump. Lunch is over, and the end of the day seems so far away. It’s time for your mid-day LOL.
