As my favorite console, the Nintendo GameCube hosts many incredible multiplayer games. If you love the GameCube like me, then you should get some friends together and rock it old-school LAN style to play these classic games.
5. Super Smash Bros. Melee
I’m getting the very obvious ones out of the way. Smash Bros. Melee is arguably the best game for GameCube and has provided me and my friends countless hours of fun. Have three of your friends come over and beat the crap out of one another. Perfect Saturday night.
4. Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
I told you I’m getting the obvious ones out of the way, okay? Mario Kart: Double Dash!! always seems to be painted as the ugly duckling of the Mario Kart series. I’m here to tell you that this game is tons of fun and well worth your time. With great tracks like Baby Park, Mushroom Bridge and Peach Beach, Mario Kart’s GameCube entry offers great gameplay with a one-of-a-kind 2 people per-kart mechanic.
3. Soul Calibur II
While Smash Bros. Melee gets all of the fighting game love on GameCube, Soul Calibur II also offers a great experience. The game plays incredibly well, and Soul Calibur II is a fan favorite, since Link is a playable fighter in the GameCube version.
2. Mario Power Tennis
I am a big fan of the Mario series’ sports games, with Mario Power Tennis leading the pack as one of my favorites. Like many other Mario sports games, Mario Power Tennis is as simple as you want it to be. But it’s deep enough for players to develop real skill.
1. Madden 08
This is the best Madden game ever made. It’s hard to explain why Madden 08 is the best, but it just feels like this installment is when Madden was most perfect. If you like football, then there aren’t many things more fun than getting friends together and drafting teams to play against each other with. The controls and graphics remind me of an older time in games, and somehow the fact that it is older immerses you more, as opposed to the newer Madden games.
These are my favorite multiplayer games on GameCube, but I would love to hear what some of yours are. Let me know in the comments!
