The brainchild of Felicia Day, The Guild is comedic web series which first aired in 2007. The Guild depicts the lives of 6 dedicated gamers under the same MMO guild, The Knights of the Good. The group eventually emerges from behind their computer screens, becoming friends in real life. From that, the series follows them as they go on adventures to expansion pack releases, cons and the like; all throughout, a heap of delicious geek drama insues.
With its cheeky humor and quirky cultural references, the series gained a huge fanbase in its 6-year running. Let’s not forget that it reached viral status with its gamer themed music videos: “Do You Want To Date My Avatar,” “Game On” and “I’m The One That’s Cool.” For a spell, the series found homes on Xbox Live, MSN.com and Zune Marketplace before finding a spot on Felicia Day’s Youtube network, Geek and Sundry.
After spanning 6 successful seasons, the series officially came to a close in January, but not without becoming a nominee for the Dragon Slayer Award for Notable Machinima or Video Series. Will The Guild win? It’s up to the voters to decide.
