The “Next” In EverQuest Next

The word “next” has been thrown around a lot at SOE Live this year.

Next panel, next line, next drink – all heard several times. But none more than “EverQuest Next” and “next generation.” A question is also on the lips and minds of many attendees: “What is the ‘Next’ in ‘EverQuest Next’?” Well – I don’t know for sure, but I have a good idea.

One thing that was really driven home about DC Universe Online and Planetside 2 is the fact that they will be playable at the launch of the PlayStation 4 later this year; the next generation.

This got me thinking: Perhaps the “Next” in EverQuest Next signifies it’s entrance into the life of the next-gen console, as well as a new generation of PC MMOs. This is merely a prediction, but it is an educated prediction that makes sense within the context of the gaming climate.

We won’t know for sure until later this afternoon at the EverQuest Next panel, where the full game will be revealed!
