The combination of violence and video games has been a hot topic in the past year. A very violent crime occurs and it instantly calls for debate on violent video games leading to lives of crime. This, of course, leads to many versions of the blame game. But Elizabeth Hasselbeck has a new theory to the whole debate, a video game tracking registry.
Come Again?
On Fox and Friends, Elizabeth Hasselbeck says it’s not gun control, but video game control that should be addressed when it comes to these mass violent crimes, such as the most recent Navy Yard shooting. According to Elizabeth Hasselbeck:
“What about frequency testing? How often has this game been played? I’m not one to get in there and say, monitor everything, but if this, indeed, is a strong link, right, to mass killings then why aren’t we looking at frequency of purchases per person? And also, how often they’re playing and maybe they time out after a certain hour.”
Not only does Hasselbeck mention tracking video game purchases, but even recommending how much time a player spends on said game, as if all gamers are children. One of the reporters with Hasselbeck said, “Go to your room,” which is exactly what the end of Hasselbeck’s statement was alluding to.
What would you think of the government tracking your purchases and placing time limits on how long you play a video game? Do you think Hasselbeck’s idea has merit?
