What Does the Prototype Look Like in Poppy Playtime? We’ve Already Glimpsed It

We face the Prototype in Chapter 4, but what will it look like? We already have some answers.

From the first chapter, the Prototype becomes an enigmatic figure. However, we learn bits of information about it as we travel deeper into the Playtime Co. factory, even if we never get a full look at him. But it leaves us wondering: what does the Prototype look like in Poppy Playtime?

What Does the Prototype Really Look Like in Poppy Playtime?

Although we haven’t seen it, we’ve received several hints about what the Prototype looks like. Our biggest hint comes in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3, when we see the shrine made by CatNap. With what we know, it’s safe to assume the shrine shows a fairly accurate representation of the Prototype, but with symbolic elements added.

CatNap’s Prototype Shrine

Having seen it, CatNap knows what the Prototype looks like, so his shrine must show us a mixture of the Prototype’s reality and the symbolic side of the Prototype being composed of multiple souls. We already knew that it made other toys part of it, since Mommy Long Legs screams in horror that “he’ll make me a part of him” at the end of Chapter 2. As such, the wireframe of broken toys is likely close to its real appearance.

The Shrine’s Symbolism

Then, we have the symbolic side. The skeleton at the head of the shrine is unlikely to be part of the real Prototype. Instead, it shows us that the captain of the Prototype — the original human test subject — was an unwilling participant, as seen by the way its wrists are bound together with rope. From the image on a VHS tape and glimpses, however, the shrine is missing the combination of blood and flesh that the Prototype supposedly has. Aside from that, the shrine shows the main idea of what it’ll look like.

The Scale of the Prototype

But there are elements we don’t know about it. I know Mommy Long Legs, Huggy Wuggy, and CatNap became part of the Prototype, but there’s limited information about which other toys met the same fate. Depending on the number of toys that became part of it, the Prototype’s size could be massive. And it’s only growing by adding CatNap — and possibly Kissy Missy — to its form.

That’s what we know about what the Prototype looks like in Poppy Playtime using only information given to us during the first three chapters. Regardless of its form, our fight against it’s sure to be intense. From here, check out more content like what the ending means in Chapter 3.
