Brian recently reported that the AbleGamers charity is helping Americans with disabilities improve their quality of life by playing video games. This charity is setting up free appointments with people to see how the disabled people can receive advice on what could allow them to enjoy digital entertainment.
Video games are made for able-bodied people, but the ones who need them are the disabled and disenfranchised.
I’m here to give a +1 to Steve Spohn and everyone at AbleGamers because video games are made for able-bodied people, but the ones who need them are the disabled and disenfranchised. If you can’t walk in real life a run through the forest in Guild Wars has to feel good. If you are powerless to control your life then maybe telling some Sims what to do will let you feel powerful enough to get through the day. From fighting in Diablo to building in Minecraft the virtual experience of being productive can get people through the day who otherwise might not make it.
I know. Trust me. In real life I’ve been blind. I’ve been disabled. I’ve been unable to walk. Depending on your definition I’ve even been dead.
And sometimes when I felt like this…
All I wanted was to feel like this…
Sometimes you need to be a little badass. I’m glad that AbleGamers has top-end gaming devices and cutting-edge assistive technology to give everybody that. You all deserve to be heroes of somewhere even if you can’t do it in your real life.
