This morning at Square Enix’s E3 conference, Yosuke Matsuda, President and Representative Director of Square Enix Holdings, announced that they are opening a brand new studio called Tokyo RPG Factory.
An original role-playing game is already in the works at Tokyo RPG Factory, though is in the very early stages of development. The RPG is tentatively called Project Setsuna. While no gameplay footage has been released for the game, Square Enix displayed a few pieces of concept art at their conference. Despite being early, Square Enix, announced that the game should release sometime in 2016.
While recognizing that RPG’s are a major part of Square Enix, Matsuda stated on stage while introducing the new studio and game that they are “devoted to creating incredible, new RPG titles.” While it is unclear what changes and new ideas the studio will have in store for us with their new project, it is certain that they aim to make interesting and innovative JRPGs. Project Setsuna does not aim to build off any previously existing series, but is game completely brand new.
You can expect more details on Project Setsuna later this year, for now you can view the presentation here:
