V Rising PvE Versus PvP: Which Is Better?

So, should you play on a PVE server or a PVP one in V Rising and what rules apply to these two variants?

The first choice you’ll have to make when playing V Rising for the first time is whether you want to join a PVP or PVE server. Both have their positives and negatives, but it’s ultimately down to personal playstyle. So, is PVE or PVP better in V Rising?

If you’re playing V Rising for the very first time, I highly recommend that you start on a PVE server. This is because V Rising has some important mechanics that you need to learn about combat, character builds, and base building, so other players destroying your base and constantly killing you can’t interfere with that. It’s much better to start on a PVE realm, build your first castle, learn the ropes and resource locations, get used to the combat system, etc.

Once you’ve got the basic and the advanced mechanics down, you can head into a PVP server if you prefer a more aggressive playstyle. You can make a whole new character from scratch on a PVP server without interfering with your progress on the PVE one. You can then alternate or focus on one character. Overall, I prefer the PVE playstyle since you can build up your base and power in peace without suddenly losing progress when players destroy your castle and your progress while you’re offline.

This PVP server mechanic essentially means that other players can lay siege to your castle, destroy your Castle Heart and all your stations, as well as steal your loot that’s not in Vampire Lockboxes. Unless it’s a softcore PVP server, you’ll also lose all your gear. All of this can happen while you’re offline in your coffin. That said, the appeal is that you can raid other castles for valuable resources and have epic PVP fights. With that in mind, let’s check out the core differences between PVE and PVP in detail.

What’s the Difference Between PVP and PVE in V Rising?

Here are the core differences and mechanics in PVE and PVP so that you have a better understanding of how both modes work:

PVE

  • Players can’t attack you, your servants, or your claimed mounts.
  • Players can’t damage your castle walls, stations, and heart unless your Castle Heart is empty.
  • Players can’t take from your chests, similar to how Vampire Lockboxes work in PVP.
  • You can more easily work with other players to take down V Blood bosses and world bosses.

PVP

  • Players can attack you, your servants, and your claimed mounts.
  • Players can create Siege Colems to destroy your walls.
  • Players can craft Castle Keys of various levels to lower your defenses, destroy your castle, and claim your castle as their own by interacting with your Castle Heart.
  • Players can open your chests and steal loot except for the Vampire Lockbox chest.

Most commonly, PVP server raids are done to steal important resources like Stygian Shards or Scourge Stones. The most common strategy is crafting a Stone Golem and using Bat Form to fly into your castle, reach the Castle Heart, and disable it with an appropriate level Castle Key matching your Castle Heart level. This means that recruiting high-quality blood servants and outfitting them with the best gear is a crucial mechanic in PVP since they’re your last line of defense. Overall, PVP servers offer an action-paced playstyle where you’re always at risk of losing all your progress and can do the same to other players.

Therefore, if you’re looking for a Diablo-esque experience with occasional co-op, I recommend PVE servers in V Rising. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a Rust-like experience with raids, then PVP servers are the way to go.

That’s it for my guide on whether you should play PVE or PVP in V Rising. For more V Rising guides, check out my Necromancer build.
