Dead Island 2: Where to Find the Landscaper’s Keys

For all your landscaping and evisceration needs, consult Green Thumb Eddie in Dead Island 2's zombie-haunted Bel-Air. Here's how to get the Landscaper's Keys.

The first lockbox you find in Dead Island 2 is also one of the hardest to open. To open Eddie’s Toolbox in Bel-Air, you’ll need to find the Landscaper’s Keys. You can find them on a named zombie, and this guide will tell you where to look.

Dead Island 2 Landscaper’s Keys Location

Right as you’re leaving Emma Jaunt’s house for the “Call the Cavalry” quest, you may notice Eddie’s Toolbox in the back of a pickup truck that’s parked in Emma’s driveway. If you examine it, it comes with a tooltip about Dead Island 2’s lockboxes and how to open them.

In the Toolbox’s case, it requires the Landscaper’s Keys. Like other lockboxes you’ll find in Bel-Air, such as Curtis Sinclair’s valuables safe or the vault of Broseidon in the Goat Pen house, those keys will be found on a named zombie that’ll appear at some point over the course of the game.

For the Toolbox, you’re looking for Green Thumb Eddie, a named Butcher, which can spawn near Curt Swanson’s pool in Bel-Air.

Complete the Boardwalking Dead Quest

That won’t be for a while, though. It’s not entirely clear what makes Eddie spawn, but our working theory is that Eddie won’t show up until you’ve cleared the main story quest “Boardwalking Dead” at the Santa Monica Pier.

After that point, if you go back to Curt’s place during the day or night, Eddie will be there waiting to punch your ticket.

As a named Butcher, Eddie has more health and hits a little harder than his generic equivalents. You can deal with him in the same way, however.

Butchers are totally immune to any attack that hits their arms, so they’ll shrug off anything you do to them while they’re blocking. If you wait for a Butcher to run up to you and Perfect Block their blade thrusts, it stuns them for a few crucial seconds. That’s a good time to hit them in the head or legs, or blast them with a shotgun at point-blank range.

If you give them an opening while they’re at low health, Butchers may run away and feed on the closest convenient corpse to quickly restore their HP. Eddie will try the same trick if you let him, and if you hit him in the back while he’s eating, it counts towards the Dinnertime’s Over Combat Challenge.

Upon his defeat, Eddie drops typical Butcher zombie parts and the Landscaper’s Keys. (He also happened to drop the hidden Skill Card Ravenous when I beat him.) You can take the Keys back to Eddie’s Toolbox to open it. You’ll receive a randomly generated, high-quality weapon.

Now you know how to find the Landscaper’s Keys and open Eddie’s Toolbox. For tips on how to find the keys for the other lockboxes in Bel-Air, check out our full guide. If you need help with almost anything else about Dead Island 2, check out our dedicated DI2 guides hub.
