Cyberpunk 2077 gives you plenty of weapons to play around with during your time in Night City. And Night City Wire’s second episode teased us with a bit more information about some of the Cyberpunk guns you’ll be using as V — assuming you’ve got the gumption to take them.

Cyberpunk 2077 weapons, guns and otherwise, come in three varieties: Power, Tech, and Smart.

Power weapons are the closest to real-world weapons. They’re strong, they bust stuff up, and there aren’t that many bells and whistles to them. But their projectiles can ricochet off objects to hit enemies behind cover if you plan well enough.

Tech weapons get a bit more interesting. These are super powerful, modified to launch bullets at incredibly high velocities. They hit so hard that they can actually shoot through walls.

Smart weapons feature technology that lets you track and follow enemies. One example CD Projekt Red provided was an eight-barreled shotgun where each barrel could track a separate enemy, effectively clearing an entire room in just one trigger pull.

Since Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG as much as it’s a shooter, neither you nor your weapons will stay the same throughout the course of the game. Qualities like reload time, accuracy, and weapon movement can all be upgraded as you gradually become a legend in Night City, no matter what life path you choose.

You can also mod and improve your weapons outside of leveling up. Attachment mods include scopes, silencers, and the like — things that shake up how you approach situations without technically altering a weapon’s abilities.

Then there’s a second mod type, software mods. These are chips you insert into a weapon that enhance attributes like power and accuracy, though there are also software mods that change the type of rounds you fire. Some are non-lethal, while others change from regular bullets to biochemical weapons.

Along with numerous ways to handle your weapon, there are also plenty of weapons to find and choose between. These all fall somewhere in the usual “common through legendary” spectrum, but there’s a twist.

Some of the best Cyberpunk 2077 weapons aren’t technically up for grabs. You’ll have to steal them off another character, which often means killing that character. The trouble is, CDPR says you’ll know most of these characters through the story, so it’s up to you whether murdering your favorite NPC is worth a shiny new weapon.

But it wasn't until 2017 he started writing about them, after finishing two history degrees and deciding a career in academia just wasn't the best way forward. You'll usually find him playing RPGs, strategy games, or platformers, but he's up for almost anything that seems interesting.
