Deus Ex portrays a dystopian future with clever advertisement

New Yorkers have spotted new Deus Ex, mankind divided advertisements cleverly hidden in the streets.

People have taken notice of several posters that have been plastered on the walls and buildings of New York that resemble propaganda posters. These posters happen to be a cleverly disguised advertisement for Eidos Montreal’s upcoming game Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The Deus Ex franchise has been praised for its commentary on humanity’s relationship with technology, but with its most recent entry into the franchise, it hits a bit closer to home. The reason for this is that Deus Ex: Human Revolution and its sequel predict a future that is somewhat possible, the same way that many of George Orwell’s predictions in 1984 have come to fruition in one way or another.

The poster serves as a reminder for those who alienate augmented citizens that they are not machines

Deus Ex: Human Revolution shows a future that is possible in some ways. The science of human prosthetics and human enchancement is increasing at an exponential rate. So much so that some of the robotic limbs seen in Deus Ex may be possible within the next 20 years. No, we probably will not have limbs that shoot bullets or blades. However, the thought that human augmentation could get to a point that people will willingly amputate their functioning limbs in exchange for superior artificial limbs is nothing short of unsettling.

Although this arm may not be as sophisticated as Adam Jensen’s, it certainly bears resemblance

These advertisements make us wonder about the possibility of future controversy and ethical dilemmas of the future. The harrowing image of the bionic man looming over children painting would send hysteria through the masses if it were ever to become a reality. We will have to see what other commentaries Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will make as it approaches its release
