Which fantasy game has you addicted? Here are five of the best.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Fantasy is undoubtedly one of the most popular genres in gaming. Not to mention in films and novels. The idea behind immersing yourself into another world, creating your own character is a great release into an alternate world. With all this in mind it is easy to see why people can get so addicted to fantasy games. So which have been the best? Has it been the numbers game? The Elder Scrolls, World of Warcraft? Or perhaps the epics with phenomenal story lines, Prince of Persia, or Assassin’s Creed.

Skyrim – Playstation 3/ Xbox 360

Arguably the most successful game in the Elder Scrolls series. Oblivion was hard to beat. The seventh generation console game was extremely well received by both critics and fans. It didn’t seem as though Bethesda would be able to top themselves. But Skyrim blew it all out of the water. On a seventh generation console once again, Bethesda were able to completely reinvigorate the graphics and game play for Skyrim. As an RPG it opened up a whole new door of opportunities, including better fighting game play and a complete wardrobe makeover. Yet it kept a lot of the winning formulas, with famous weapons and guilds making the cut for Skyrim. The levelling up system of course manages to keep you addicted. There was of course also Dragons!

Game Of Thrones – Playstation 3/Xbox 360/PC

Possibly a contentious choice. But because it’s so successful and quite frankly so awesome to be able to see the books being played out right in front of you, it manages to make the way into the list. You do get to see a couple of main character, but it’s good that the game moves away slightly from the films and books. If it followed George R.R. Martin’s storyline to the letter, us gamers would know exactly what was happening. In terms of gameplay and graphics it might not reach the same height as others, but for story it’s great. Hopefully we will get to see another come out which manages to beat the TV series!

Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within – Playstation 2

A bit old school for some, but during it’s time. Definitely one of the best. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, got things off to a solid start in the 3D Prince space. Warrior Within took it to another level. An increase in gameplay and graphics alone managed to push the standard of the game up, but what really made things great was the increase in fighting style, dual weapon ability and of course multiple endings. Prince of Persia of course went on to greater things, which included a movie, but Warrior Within is still the pick of the bunch.

World of Warcraft – PC

Certainly the most addictive game out of the bunch. WoW is a huge online multiplayer game, which undoubtedly plays the numbers game. In a constant attempt to upgrade your character and gear, you will end up playing non-stop! There are of course quests and downloadable content, but the basics behind the game is bettering yourself in a fantasy world, which makes for some great gaming!

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Playstation 4/Xbox one/PC

The best in the series. Witcher 3 has had massive critical acclaim since its release and you can see why. The gameplay is terrific, along with the graphics. The combat fighting is quick and easy, and there are some great finishing moves. The storyline is pretty solid too and it sticks to the roots of its previous games, just with a few upgrades.

So there we have it. The top fantasy games. There is a huge amount to pick from, so there are definitely a few which have been missed on the list. But in terms of game play, graphics, addictiveness and storyline these are surely the best!
