In case you haven’t heard, the NES Classic released today. And nostalgia-driven gamers everywhere flocked to online or retail stores to get it, since there was no option to pre-order. But many of them walked away disappointed and empty-handed, because the system sold out in a mere 5 minutes.
After hearing that the NES had already sold out, lots of these would-be buyers took to Twitter to share how heartbroken they were over the fact that they wouldn’t be reliving the glory days of gaming just yet.
Some of them took it in humorous stride, and others seemed legitimately upset that they’ll have to wait an undisclosed amount of time for the system to go on sale again. Running the gamut from silly to sorrowful, here are some of the best reaction Tweets from fans who didn’t get their hands on the NES Classic this time around.
Showed up to Best Buy an hour before they opened to get an NES Classic. Thought I was first in line. Nope, they sold all 17 two hours early.

Preordered Nintendo NES Classic Mini a month ago.
Yesterday my preorder got cancelled.
Now too late to order it from elsewhere.

Trying to find a NES Classic is like being Indiana Jones. Adventure, danger, and and the possibility of missing out on fortune and glory. pic.twitter.com/LwMJT7bWYS

And last but not least, this NES fan has a message of hope for all of us, regardless of whether or not you managed to get your hands on the system.
Amidst all of the NES Classic chaos I just realized that we are only a week away from Pokemon Sun / Moon. What a time to be a gamer!

What a time indeed. Although the Classic might be sold out for now, it certainly won’t be forever. Nintendo is known for creating scarcity when it first releases consoles — the same happened with the Wii at launch, and many amiibo releases have seen the same treatment as well. Hopefully more systems will arrive before the holiday season comes to an end.
