Ragnarok Online 2‘s doors opened on December 27, but they didn’t stay open for long. Due to heavy server load, the game’s open beta had to be pushed back to January 3rd.
Chairman of Asiasoft, Sherman Tan, posted on the official RO2 Facebook page explaining the situation and apologizing for the inconvenience.
Players who have been able to log in between December 27 and now (I haven’t been able to) have been participating in stress tests to gauge server load. All character data from this period will be wiped when the open beta launches again on January 3rd.
It’s not surprising that the demand to get into the game surpassed what Asiasoft is currently able to handle. Ragnarok Online 2 is highly anticipated worldwide. It may not be an AAA title, but the original RO has fans all over the world — and the South East Asia server is the first English option for those looking to play the game. It’s not much of a surprise at all that the amount of players trying to get in took the servers down.
I look forward to seeing some of you in Asgard when the open beta finally launches!
