The latest trailer for Aliens: Dark Descent gives an in-depth look at what’s to come in the real-time tactical action game. Featuring information on classes, squad movements, your home base, and more, the trailer is over five minutes of in game footage with commentary. With less than a month before it releases on June 20, Aliens: Dark Descent is moving in for the kill.
While a brief gameplay trailer was released back in March, this trailer is double the length. Starting off with your landing on Lethe, or rather crash, your squad must deal with Xenomorphs, new Alien hybrids, and the greed-centric Weyland-Yutani Corporation’s agents. As a real time, strategic, squad based, tactical game with horror elements, all your decisions will have lasting in game consequences. Think carefully, as mistakes made in combat could spell permanent death for your squad, as well as impact the game later on.
New footage shows us two of five classes within the game, the Medic and Gunner. Gunners excel at taking out hordes of enemies while the Medic is critical to maintaining health and sanity levels. You read that right. Not only do you have to worry about your squads health while facing off against acid bleeding Aliens, you have to worry about their mental state, too.
To help out with this, you have the Otago, your base in space. Here you can tend to the morale of your squad to make sure they stay nice and sane. Along with taking care of your marines, you can promote them to new roles to unlock special class features. The Otago also lets you research new tech, replace fallen squad members and install upgrades to your team.
When back in the fray, you’ll need to make decisions quickly. The pace of the game is fast, even when having to make strategic decisions. To handle this, you can slow down time to think through your options without getting completely eaten or claimed by Facehuggers. Out of combat, you can hack through facility doors, weld doors shut to cover your rear, or set up motion cameras. Don’t worry, these are more advanced than the ones in Aliens, allowing you time to ready your marines for battle.
Aliens: Dark Descent looks to be the next level in tactical gameplay, as well as a new direction for the Alien video game series. It’s available to pre-order now and will release on June 20 for Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC.
