American McGee’s episodic fairytale adventure Grimm is available for purchase on Steam as of today.
All 23 episodes of American McGee’s Grimm can be purchased for PC in a complete pack for $9.99, or $0.99 per individual episode. McGee’s Spicy Horse Games submitted the title for approval on Steam Greenlight back in July 2013, followed by an approval in September of last year, along with 18 other titles.
As with McGee’s interpretations of Alice in Wonderland with American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns, Grimm demonstrates the developer’s panache for emphasizing the darker and more macabre aspects of such classic stories as Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Jack and the Beanstalk.
“Once upon a time, fairy tales were valuable cautionary yarns filled with dire warnings and sage advice,” reads the description. “However, over time, the stories have become so watered down with cute woodland creatures and happy endings that they have lost their true meaning and purpose.”
Each episode offers roughly 30 minutes of playtime, and each is a standalone experience in terms of story.
American McGee’s Grimm was initially released over the course of July 2008 to April 2009. In addition to Steam, the game is also available through Spicy Horse Games‘s official website; $20 for the complete pack, $8 per volume, or $1.30 per episode.
