Afterbirth, the name of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth DLC expansion pack is set to release sometime this year. It will add over 100 new items, new endings and items, characters and enemies, and most impressively, over 100 additional hours of gameplay.

While the developer’s blog has been slowly updating to give insight into the expansion, the biggest reveal so far has been about the mysterious new game mode: Greed mode!

Greed mode features:
  • Randomly generated mobs
  • Few to no lucky drops (only pennies)
  • Press stop button / timer feature
  • Lose a heart each time you stop the waves from spawning
  • Store is where you buy pickups and treasure keys

Current Greed mode layout (subject to change)
Cursed room
Devil/Angel room
Double wide store
Main room: A double height room with a button in the center
Two treasure rooms
Exit room

How to Play

According to the developer,

“The game starts with the store, one treasure room, and [the] cursed room unlocked. Once the button is pressed, all doors become barred, the first mob spawns into the room, and a timer appears under the button. The button turns red and grows small spikes around it and becomes the ‘stop button’
image.

Once the time runs out or the mob is killed, the next mob spawns in and this continues till you have cleared x waves, you press the stop button, or you die.”

Expected questions like “How do we open devil rooms?” and “Where does his mode end?” will most likely be answered next week. Since “Boss Rush” was added as a result of popular request, there’s no guessing what other excellent news may come fans way.
