This is starting to get ridiculous. Blizzard’s entry into the MOBA genre has gone through many different names. Blizzard Dota, Blizzard All-Stars, and most recently Heroes of the Storm. Ignoring people like me, who keep getting titles intermixed between Heroes of the Storm and Heart of the Swarm, the final title is presumed to be the one Blizzard will be sticking with.
Although they might want to rethink the title in Finland, since Finland already has a game by that name.
Heroes of the Storm is the name of a Finnish tabletop game. The game’s creator has suggested Blizzard might want to change the name of their game, at least in his country, to avoid naming confusion.
This raises a few awkward points. The Finnish game is already published, but they are asking Blizzard, a much larger and monetarily powerful entity, to change for them. Whether or not Blizzard is at all concerned about naming confusion is unknown, but if the MOBA keeps its name untranslated it should be a minimal issue.
There is also the question of people having faith in Blizzard. As one commenter from the source site points out, “If they can’t even think of a name, why would I think they can make a good game?”
Why, indeed?
