If you enjoy building structures in games, like Minecraft for example, you’ll probably find Castle Story to your liking. The voxel-based strategy game comes from Sauropod Studio and has enjoyed huge success from its Kickstarter campaign, earning $702,516 when they asked for $80,000. It’s cute, challenging, and addictive.
As the title implies, you build castles using Bricktrons, little gummy-like servants that seem particularly jolly in their servitude. In addition to building the castles of your dreams, the Bricktrons battle and defend your creations. The setting revolves around the floating islands you build upon over expansive seas.
I would say it’s a combination of simplified Starcraft, in your designation of priorities to your followers, and Minecraft, because of the freedom you have to build whatever you want. Of course, the style is much more accessible than Starcraft, but it has that RTS feel as you command them to gather resources or battle oncoming foes. Exploration and magic will also be a large part of the game.
You can pre-order Castle Story for $20 and get access to the beta at their website. It’ll be available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, but they’re still working out the kinks in each platform.
Also, feast your eyes on this epic castle a fan made in the Castle Story prototype. Physics? What’s that?
