Bungie gets a new CEO, but whether this is due to feedback over Destiny or a natural exchange of hats is something that we may never know

Bungie’s CEO steps down; new CEO promises brighter future

Bungie gets a new CEO, but whether this is due to feedback over Destiny or a natural exchange of hats is something that we may never know

In a rather unforeseen turn of events today, Bungie’s Board of Directors has announced that the studio’s President, Harold Ryan, will be stepping down from his position. Chief Operating Officer Pete Parsons will take over as the new Chief Executive Officer of Bungie, tasked with “leading the talented Bungie team as they continue to develop great Destiny experiences.”

In reaction to this change, Pete Parsons made this statement:

“I want to personally thank Harold for his friendship, passion, hard work, and dedication in helping make Bungie the great company it is today. As a team, we celebrated many victories and weathered many storms.”

Furthermore, Pete addressed Destiny’s audience, stating:

“I want you to know that my number one priority, and Bungie’s, is and always has been to deliver great games that we can all share together. I believe that Destiny is a one-of-a-kind experience. I also believe you have yet to see our studio’s best work. My new role here at the studio will be entirely focused on fulfilling that promise.”

Prior to becoming the (now former) President of Bungie, Harold Ryan was a former game and configuration tester who worked on games like Crimson Skies and Halo. He was the test manager for both Halo: CE and Halo 2, and became the company head in 2008.

Pete Parsons was the Chief Operating Officer of Bungie, and one of the members of Bungie’s Board of Directors (until his recent promotion, of course). Parsons worked on Halo 2 and Halo 3 as the Executive Producer and studio manager, and at one point alternated between being an Executive Producer at Bungie and Microsoft, respectively.

What do you think of this change? Why do you think Harold Ryan stepped down? Let me know down in the comments!
