The Call of Duty Twitter account reported a false terrorist attack to promote Black Ops 3.

Today, Activision decided to do something very interesting to promote Call of Duty. The company decided to change the name of Call of Duty’s Twitter account to “Current Events Aggregate” and started posting.

This continues on with city authorities issuing orders, drones being spotted above the city, confirmation of the explosion taking place at Singapore Research Laboratories, and people rioting within the Quarantine Zone.

The string of tweets finally ends with a confirmation that this was all fake: 

However, the story itself is very nerve-racking. In August, there was an explosion in Thailand that was revealed in a very similar way.

Worst of all, this was a very serious matter. Orson Welle’s War of the Worlds may have faked an alien invasion, but Activision just tried to fake a terror attack. Panic and outrage may just ensue at the stunt.
