If you were a fan of Mickey Mouse: Castle of Illusion on the Sega Genesis, you’ll want to check this out on Steam. Recently on August 16th, Ducktales: Remastered was released, and now we’re brought back with more nostalgia with Castle of Illusion.
Let’s go back in time to E3, with some Gameplay
The news of Castle of Illusion might seem familiar because the trailer was announced at E3. Based off of the gameplay video by Rev3Games, the game looks very similar to that of the Sega version. The gameplay seems to mimic the older edition, and the levels definitely look more advanced and ‘fresh’.
One of the biggest new features would be the 2.5D, which would include an interactive background. In the older edition, it was strictly 2D which is what was expected for the time. But now in the current day having plain 2D graphics would be a little dated, so the upgrade in the game is well worth it.
If you’re not familiar with the game, know that you’ll be fighting enemies with a ‘bounce’ skill, and throwing projectiles at foes. A cool feature added is the ability to collect playing cards and chilli peppers that can unlock outfits for Mickey.
Look out! – Plot Spoilers
Don’t think that the game has changed that much, because the main plot is the same. The evil witch Mizrabel still kidnaps Minnie Mouse, and Mickey is still destined to go into the Castle of Illusion to save her. You’ll have to catch seven rainbow gems to form that colorful rainbow that will lead you to the boss battle – Mizrabel.
Pre-order Goodies, and Platforms
Those of you that were lucky enough to pre-order Castle of Illusion on the PlayStation network will receive a copy of the original Sega Genesis version. For the rest of us, we’ll just have to suffice with getting the game on our preferred systems, including: Xbox Live Network, PlayStation Network, and Microsoft Windows (Steam).
Personally, I’m super stoked to play this game. My mom and sister were big fanatics about Castle of Illusion on the old Master System. I know for a fact they’ll be wanting to play the game the minute I get it on Steam!
