Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is said to pick up where the first one left off; with Dracula.
Developer MercurySteam announced that they will be covering a new aspect of our beloved count at Konami’s pre-E3 conference today. Don’t expect Bela Lugosi as the sequel is supposed to be darker and more cruel.
Lords of Shadow 2 will require much more skill in defeating opponents, unlike its predecessor. Enemies will now adorn shields and armor that must be broken down to expose their weaknesses. This shouldn’t be too much of a problem. You are Dracula after all.
“When we set out in 2007 to reimagine Castlevania and do something new with it, it was a very risky proposition and we were all very nervous about it,” said producer Dave Cox. “With the Lords of Shadow universe we decided very early on that we wanted to tell the story of Dracula, but felt that Dracula had never been properly explained, and his story had never been properly told.”
The first Lords of Shadow was the journey of Gabriel Belmont and his eventual transformation into Dracula and fall into darkness. The sequel will pick up where the first one left off as Dracula develops. MercurySteam wanted the game’s world to grow, and for players to be able to roam the world without the hassle of load times. The Mercury Engine was created for this purpose. Players will be able to explore the world with a 360, free-moving camera. This will allow them to check out Dracula’s castle as well as a new modern world where the game is set.
As a fan of the first Lords of Shadow, I’m extremely excited to see this sequel. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is set to release this winter for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
And can we please get some more Sir Patrick Stewart? Kay, thanks.
