Niantic Labs, creators of Pokémon GO, have joined forces with the Pokémon Company to bring you a new in-game event to celebrate Pokemon Day! From February 27 at 1:00 p.m PST until March 6 at 1:00 p.m PST, Pikachu will be out in abundance, wearing cute little party hats to celebrate the event. The hat will stay on Pikachu forever, just like the Santa hat found during the Christmas celebration, but it will only be available during this event.
Celebrated on February 27 every year, Pokemon Day celebrates the day that the first Pokemon game was released in Japan back in 1996. There will be a whole host of Pokemon related activities going on during the day, and beyond, including #PokemonDay being used across social media for fans to recall their favorite Pokemon memories.
In addition, some of the more well-known Pokémon films will be available to stream from Pokemon.com and via Pokémon TV mobile apps, and players will be able to head to their local participating GameStop stores to get a commemorative bottle cap for Pokemon Sun or Pokemon Moon.
