Visual novel translation and licensing company Sekai Project has released Clannad Side Stories on the PC via Steam. The game is a companion game to Visual Art’s/Key’s bestselling visual novel Clannad, which is best known in the West for inspiring a critically-acclaimed anime television series and movie of the same name.
Clannad Side Stories has been released as part of Sekai Project’s 2014 Kickstarter campaign to officially localize Clannad. Side Stories was listed as one of the project’s stretch goals, which were all successfully met. Sekai Project released Clannad on Steam last November. A kickstarter original Clannad anthology manga is forthcoming.
Clannad Side Stories started out as a series of drama CDs titled Clannad: Hikari Mimamoru Sakamichi. The CDs were eventually included in visual form in the PlayStation Portable edition of Clannad released in Japan in 2008, and added as DLC to the PlayStation 3 edition in 2011. This is the game’s first official English release.
Clannad tells the story of high school student Tomoya Okazaki after he meets an odd girl named Nagisa Furukawa, who is repeating her last year of high school due to an illness. Tomoya and Nagisa meet other friends along the way as they strive to fulfill Nagisa’s dream of restarting the school drama club. Clannad has received universal praise for its deep and moving story, branching narrative, rich dialogue, and lifelike characterization.
Clannad is currently 50% off on the Steam store, while Clannad Side Stories can be purchased for 10% off the regular price.
