Gamers everywhere got a treat when Dark Souls II was announced during Spike’s Video Game Awards. Both prior games, Dark Souls and Demon Souls, have a large and extremely loyal following, so the news was naturally met with excitement even without a release date being set yet for the upcoming game. So what has many of these loyal fans worried?
Understandable
Dark Souls 2 has a new director, Tomohiro Shibuya, has said he plans on making it, “more straightforward and understandable” than prior games in the series. For a game franchise that has earned much of its praise from how difficult it is both to play and understand, that statement has ominous possibilities attached to it. As long as Dark Souls has been released, players are still communicating across the web about new discoveries and ways of interpreting the game world and the characters within it. It is easy to understand where these dedicated players would be worried, especially given the modern trend in most game genres of dumbing down and making things easy and accessible.

At this point in time we don’t have much to go on to try and judge what sort of balance is going to be found. The recent announcement of the game itself has left everyone salivating for more information, but the available facts are very limited. Cross your fingers, guys and gals.
