Dean Hall has been under a lot of stress. He and his entire team of developers trying to turn the ARMA 2 mod, DayZ, into a standalone product has had them all under scrutiny from thousands of fans and cold journalists alike.
With that pressure to deliver already weighing on him and his team, the fiasco/scandal that was The War Z brought things to the point of depression for he and much of his team. As upsetting as it was having even friends and family members mixing the games up and accusing him of unethical business practices, Hall and his team soldiered on with their own work, aware that the expectation that they deliver was going to be even more critical.
Now their goal is within sight, and Hall says he’s never been more excited.
The risks we took with the direction have paid off. The engine and approach of the game is now entirely DayZ’s own, it is striking out into it’s own territory as a project. This is very exciting for all the team.
He warns that the game should not get overhyped, as there is still a lot of work to be done before they have a finished product, but if Hall is so excited about DayZ, it seems safe to agree to share that excitement.
